SUMMER 2008 NEWSLETTER
Greetings once again to all IAB donors and supporters! It’s been awhile since the IAB has updated the membership on its past, current, and future activities, so let’s get started.
Our spring 2008 newsletter offered a challenge to IAB members of setting a personal goal of enrolling one new IAB member this year. So far that effort has resulted in several new IAB members. We want to keep that challenge in front of all our IAB members since our best recruiting tool is our own membership.
It is the time of year again when the IAB sends out notices to existing IAB members to renew their membership dues. The IAB Executive Committee has decided to not make annual dues a mandatory part of IAB participation. We will continue to send out the ‘dues’ notice each year as a reminder to people to consider the IAB in its donation efforts.
Those who do send in donations or ‘dues’ will be recognized as official members of the IAB.
IAB continues to operate with a positive financial balance. As of September 10, 2008 our available balance is $7,791.60.. This does not yet include revenue from IAB work on the Ingram Library Porch project that has yet to be concluded.
Included in the email with this informational letter is a complete financial report for the past fiscal year. Our fiscal year runs from July 1 – June 30 so the report shows only activity through June 30, 2008. Since that time the IAB brought in over $4,000 from 2008 Country Jam and spent nearly $1,900 on the ILHS club soccer program, including purchase of new goals and nets.
It is very exciting to see the financial support and in turn the opportunities that affords IAB for providing significant assistance to ILHS athletics.
Country Jam
A major source of IAB revenue the past several years has been the work effort at the Country Jam music festival in Eau Claire. This past July IAB once again provided a work crew of 30 people for each of three nights of the event. Over 45 IAB volunteers contributed time to make this effort work.
The 2008 Country Jam was eventful for our IAB group since this was the first time in our five years of working the event that we got rained on. Getting 2 inches of rain in a half hour is more than just a light shower and resulted in significant water issues within Country Jam grounds.
Our IAB crew got tremendous accolades from the Country Jam organizers since ours was the only group that stayed on station throughout the rain event and was ready to go back into action after the storm passed through. Many other groups abandoned their posts and left the event without returning.
In the end, having to stand knee deep in water by the stage, wading through mud, or dealing with soaked clothes became a storied chapter in our IAB Country Jam efforts. A tremendous thanks goes out to everyone who hung in there and turned the rain event into a positive experience.
I know Country Jam truly respects and appreciates our group. We fully expect to be back in 2009 with another group, so make your plans now to participate!!! (July 23 - 25, 2009)
ILC Academic Center/Ingram Hall Building Project
The IAB has been engaged by the ILC Building Committee to do the contracting work for the removal and reconstruction of the Ingram Hall library porch.
In early July, a crew of 12 IAB volunteers performed the removal and demolition of the existing Ingram library porch. In late July, a crew made up of Tony, Benno, Pete, and Jim Sydow spent just over 2 days to frame, exterior sheet, and install the new windows and doors for the new reconstructed porch. A tremendous amount of work in a very short period of time!!! Many thanks to Sydow Incorporated for their high quality work. A special thanks to Tony for keeping all those Sydow uncles in line!!!
This work effort has dual benefits for ILC. First, the IAB is doing the work at a significant cost savings as opposed to what a general contractor would charge. Second, any payments to the IAB are funneled directly back into ILHS in the form of athletic projects.
We expect the project to wrap up by the end of September, 2008.
ILC Academic Center/Ingram Hall Building ProjectIn June, 2008, a group of 6 IAB volunteers assisted Athletic Director Mike Buck in assembling the new storage area for the athletic department in the new maintenance building. We say ‘assemble’ because Mike Buck designed and constructed (with the help of Jim Sydow) modular walls for the storage area. The IAB crew transported the pieces from Mike Buck’s house and then helped assemble them in the new maintenance building.
The work done by Mike Buck is another testimony to the amount work that goes on behind the scenes by our professors and other staff at ILC. Thanks Mike!!!!!
Beer and brats were enjoyed by all following the successful assembling effort !
Since our Spring, 2008 Newsletter, the IAB has made the following purchases for ILHS:
The IAB continues to work with ILHS Athletic Department on prioritizing the list of future projects. In no particular order, the following projects are currently on the list and provide ample opportunities for us to provide funding for:
As always, the needs are there and the challenges remain in trying to meet them all. However, it is nothing short of amazing as to what we’ve already been able to accomplish in just a couple years of existence. And, with the current revenue stream remaining very positive, it is possible we could take on some very significant projects from this list.
For all of this – THANK YOU!!!!!! Without our members, none of this would be possible.
That should wrap up this IAB Newsletter. Again – thank you for your support and don’t forget to see if you can recruit that next member!!!!
